School Age Child Care
After school child care for students of working families is offered in the School Age Child Care (SACC) program through the Rockland YMHA. SACC provides a safe and stimulating environment on school days for district children in grades kindergarten through seven. This year's SACC program is held at Lincoln Avenue Elementary School. Students from Evans Park, Franklin Avenue, and Pearl River Middle School are bussed at school dismissal to Lincoln Avenue. Parents are responsible for picking up their children at the end of the day. Title I
The Title I Program in reading, writing, and math provides skill, comprehension, and concept development for students who demonstrate needs in these areas. Placement in this program is based on teacher recommendation, evaluation of classroom performance, and analysis of standardized test results.
JET Time
JET - Justified Educational Time - is a period of time set aside in each elementary school day for students in grades one through four to receive a variety of enrichment and/or support services without disruption to their classroom instruction. During JET, students may receive instruction in instrumental music, speech, remediation, resource room, enrichment program, occupational therapy and/or physical therapy for anywhere from 20 to 60 minutes. During this pre-set time, no new instruction takes place in the classroom. Instead, classroom activities may include centers or provide reinforcement for groups or individuals. Students also use this time for research, writing, and technology activities.
Enrichment
A differentiated educational program responds to the varying needs of advanced learners by challenging their intellectual talents. Enrichment, alternative, accelerated, and individually prescribed activities are provided within the regular classroom studies in grades 1 through 7 and then supported additionally for identified students through the PREP program at the elementary level and the Challenge program in the middle school. At the high school, enrichment is offered through honors, college, and Advanced Placement courses, as well as the Gamma Tau Pi club.
Universal Pre-Kindergarten
Funding for pre-kindergarten is available on a limited basis for families of children who will be four years old on or before December 1st. Services are delivered in approved childcare facilities located throughout Rockland County. Contact Child Care Resources of Rockland at 845-425-0009 for details.
