ENGLISH

Ms. Arney

English 9 honors / Pre-AP

  • 3-ring binder (class notebook) - this is to be used exclusively for English class (I recommend a 2-3 inch binder).  You may wish to keep a second large 3-ring binder at home exclusively for vocabulary.
  • Blue or black pens (not red, green, pink or purple).
  • Loose leaf (not notebook paper)
  • 3" square post-its
  • 3x5 index cards
  • Binder rings (for flashcards)
  • Highlighters (for notes & personal & Xeroxed tests)
  • Dry erase markers (thin)
  • Mythology by Edith Hamilton (I strongly suggest this book be purchased for the class; we will be referencing it all year).
  • Grammar Workbook for the ACT, SAT, and More. ISBN 0764144898  (I will have copies of this grammar workbook available for purchase at the Nanuet Barnes and Noble after July 4th.  You simply need to go to the counter and identify yourself as a student in my class).

Suggestion:  For those of you who experience difficulty in grammar, you may wish to purchase an additional supplement to assist you.  I recommend the Grammar Devotional or Grammar Essentials for Dummies (the latter suggestion is not meant to be condescending; it is simply a wonderful resource that breaks down grammar terms and rules in user-friendly language).
