ENGLISH
Ms. Arney
English 9 honors / Pre-AP
3-ring binder (class notebook) - this is to be used exclusively for English class (I recommend a 2-3 inch binder). You may wish to keep a second large 3-ring binder at home exclusively for vocabulary.
Blue or black pens (not red, green, pink or purple).
Loose leaf (not notebook paper)
3" square post-its
3x5 index cards
Binder rings (for flashcards)
Highlighters (for notes & personal & Xeroxed tests)
Dry erase markers (thin)
Mythology by Edith Hamilton (I strongly suggest this book be purchased for the class; we will be referencing it all year).
Grammar Workbook for the ACT, SAT, and More. ISBN 0764144898 (I will have copies of this grammar workbook available for purchase at the Nanuet Barnes and Noble after July 4th. You simply need to go to the counter and identify yourself as a student in my class).
Suggestion: For those of you who experience difficulty in grammar, you may wish to purchase an additional supplement to assist you. I recommend the Grammar Devotional or Grammar Essentials for Dummies (the latter suggestion is not meant to be condescending; it is simply a wonderful resource that breaks down grammar terms and rules in user-friendly language).

Mrs. Shepard
English 10H, 10R, and English 11/AP English Literature and Composition classes
Students entering my classes should purchase the following to avoid the rush at Staples and Home Depot!
1 3-ring binder (a 2" binder should fit your notes for one semester) with dividers for 3 sections:one for classnotes and handouts on the literature, one for notes on writing your completed essays and journal entries, and one for vocabulary lists and activities.
Blue and black pens, pencils for scantrons
Loose leaf {Keep plenty of it in your binder to take notes on.}
4x6 index cards for vocabulary words lists and activties and for research.
a 3 hole punch (the skinny kind that does 2-3 sheets at a time) for the assignments that you type up and hand in since all journal reflections and essays will be kept in your middle section of your 3-ring binder.
*Honors level students must also have a copy of the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers, Seventh Edition. Students are expected to use this text throughout the year as they write, revise, and proofread their work.*
