I want to thank the Playground Committee, a dedicated group of parents, who worked tirelessly to achieve a lofty goal: the installation of a great new playground for Franklin Avenue Elementary School. Three years ago, a few parents came to me with a vision of a new playground for our Shining Stars. When we investigated different companies and saw the cost, I doubted that we could accomplish the goal in such a short period of time.
The following people served on the Playground Committee: Committee Chairs: Jean Beckerle and Donna Warren; Members: Gerry Collins, Kim Marich, Karen McGee, Rosemary O'Boyle, Bridget Bottrill, Ray Nuebauer, Tom Warren, Barbara Siedel, Maria Saparata, Terry Parker, Jean Flynn, Mike & Margaret Lynch, and Kim Crispino. The Playground Committee is one of those groups that knows how to get things done. They became a think tank of creative juices, coming up with ideas for fund raisers to meet the goal. With the fall mum and spring plant sales, the Guinness Record Breaking Longest Ice Cream Sundae, the Rockland Boulder's Night, Casino Night, Bricks 'R Us pavers, and the Professional Wrestling Exhibition, the Playground Committee strove to bring the Pearl River community together in a fun way to invest in a playground for all of the town's children.
Even the concept of a community build to erect the playground reminds me of an old fashioned barn raising, proving what a united caring community Pearl River is! It has been a pleasure to work closely with such a dynamic and dedicated group.
