Dear Pearl River School District Community,
Following Tuesday evening’s (April 21) Board of Education meeting, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Danny Gonzalez as the new Director of Physical Education, Health & Athletics effective July 1, 2026. Mr. Gonzalez brings a wealth of experience and deep understanding of physical education and athletics, as well as a genuine commitment to supporting students and staff.
Mr. Gonzalez will join us from the Harrison Central School District, where he currently serves as Assistant Director of Physical Education, Health & Athletics and was previously an Interim Assistant Principal at Louis M. Klein Middle School. He has led curriculum development, coach/teacher mentorship and program growth, while managing athletic budgets, scheduling and department operations. Prior to his time with the Harrison Central School District, he was Athletic Director and Assistant Athletic Director at Seward Park Campus in New York City where he expanded athletic offerings and strengthened programs.
Mr. Gonzalez began his career as a Physical Education teacher in the New York City Department of Education, designing and implementing engaging curriculum for high school students. He holds a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Physical Education & Sport Pedagogy and a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Spanish from Manhattanville University. He has also earned his School Building Leader (SBL) and School District Leader (SDL) certifications from SUNY New Paltz and maintains New York State certification in Physical Education.
Throughout his interview process, Mr. Gonzalez showed a passion for Rockland County’s place in Section One athletics and appreciation for the close-knit Pearl River community. He values fairness and open communication with student-athletes and their families, believes strongly in the positive impacts of teaching and coaching, and understands the importance of safety and supportive relationships. I am confident that Mr. Gonzalez will inspire our students, support our staff and enhance our Physical Education, Health and Athletics programs. Please join me in warmly welcoming him to the Pearl River School District community.
Sincerely,
Marco F. Pochintesta, Ed.D.
